This collection was built by Walter J. Hamer, an electrochemist known for his contributions to the science of batteries, during his tenure as Chief of Electrochemistry at the National Bureau of Standards (now known as the National Institute of Standards and Technology). The collection primarily consists of wet cell batteries, dry cell batteries, flashlights, and incandescent lightbulbs ranging from the late 19th century to the mid-20th century.
