Beckman, Inc. was founded during World War II to handle the development of a secret project: an oxygen meter designed by Linus Pauling for the National Defense Research Committee. Pauling and the NDRC initially approached Beckman's National Technical Laboratories about the oxygen meter, but when the company's board balked at spending so many resources on a secret project, Beckman formed a new corporate entity to take on this work. He would fold Arnold O. Beckman, Inc. into Beckman Instruments, Inc. in the 1950s. KW - California--South Pasadena KW - Buildings KW - Beckman Instruments, Inc. LA - ER -
