(Barthélemy) PB - Cuchet CY - Paris, France DA - 1783/// YR - 1783 UR - https://digital.sciencehistory.org/works/c534fp02h AB - Jean Baptiste Marie Meusnier (1754-1793), an officer in the French Royal Corps of Engineers and a mathematician, observed the flight of the hydrogen-filled balloon launched from the Champs de Mars in Paris on August 27, 1783. He calculated the height of its ascent and trajectory. These figures, as well as the one featured on Plate 6, were included in a letter Meusnier sent to Faujas de Saint-Fond. The inscription "Sellier Sculp." at lower left suggests the engraver was either François Noël Sellier (born 1737) or his son Louis Sellier (born 1757).
