This product was also marketed as "Hercules CMC." The advertisement shows two photographs of a woman at her vanity. In one she holds a cosmetics jar and in the other she applies toothpaste to a toothbrush. The accompanying text describes the applications of cellulose gum in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals for human consumption. This advertisement appeared in Drug & Cosmetic Industry. Formed in 1912 as part of an anti-trust settlement with DuPont, the Hercules Powder Company (later Hercules Inc.) initially specialized in the manufacture of explosives and smokeless powders and subsequently diversified its business to encompass a variety of industrial products, including pine and paper chemicals, synthetics, pigments, polymers, and cellulose.
