He is known for the "Kneipp Cure", a form of hydrotherapy using the application of water through various methods, temperatures, and pressures to produce therapeutic or healing effects. Kneipp wrote My Water Cure to fulfill his calling to care for people who lack "either means or convenience to have recourse to medical aid in their maladies." Content is divided into three parts, each providing a detailed discussion of the medical applications of water, apotheca (i.e. pharmaceuticals), and diseases. Each section is thoroughly illustrated. The work was first published in German in 1886, and due to its popularity, subsequently inspired numerous editions and translations. This volume, digitized in its entirety, is the only authorized and complete English edition.
