00:00:01 Syntex is an international pharmaceutical and health sciences company, founded in the early 1940s.
00:00:16 Today, Syntex's products are used in virtually every country in the world.
00:00:24 When I joined Syntex, it was a few hundred people. It was in Mexico City, and it was really not a company in those days.
00:00:31 It was a research institute. It did have some fine chemical manufacturing, but when I joined the company,
00:00:37 the thrust was steroid research, which we hoped would lead to new pharmaceutical drugs.
00:00:43 And the research program was successful.
00:00:45 We did come up with some important new developments in dermatology, in contraception, in inflammation,
00:00:52 and that was the beginning of the new Syntex.
00:00:56 Syntex is a unique company because of its people and their attitudes.
00:01:02 From the very beginning, Syntex has been a growth company.
00:01:06 And it's been a growth company because we have a lot of very bright, able, hardworking people.
00:01:12 And there's a high level of professional competence at Syntex.
00:01:16 And we also have a corporate culture, which makes this a good place to work.
00:01:22 And people, by and large, like each other.
00:01:25 They work well together. There's trust between people.
00:01:30 People pull in the same direction.
00:01:33 And Syntex is also a caring company.
00:01:36 I think the company really works hard to do the very best that it can for its employees.
00:01:41 And we all respond to that by doing the best that we can for the company.
00:01:46 And I think this makes Syntex a pretty unique company and a good place to work.
00:01:53 I am very proud to work at Syntex. I always have been.
00:01:56 I believe in the company and I believe in the products.
00:01:59 Syntex, for me, is something alive.
00:02:03 It's not just a place where I come to work.
00:02:07 The case of Syntex is unique.
00:02:10 In such a short period of time, we came such a long way.
00:02:16 And again, it was made by people.
00:02:19 I think that the commitment to our people is real.
00:02:24 It's honest. It's true.
00:02:26 I think Syntex is a fantastic company to work for.
00:02:31 Working here has made me feel important.
00:02:34 One of the reasons that I chose to come to Syntex was it had a reputation for being very strong scientifically.
00:02:41 And it's made my job a lot more rewarding by being able to talk to other scientists.
00:02:59 Syntex began as a research organization.
00:03:02 And that emphasis continues to this day.
00:03:05 Substantial investments have been made in research facilities, equipment, and people.
00:03:11 These investments at research centers in the United States, Canada, Scotland, Mexico, and France
00:03:18 will enable Syntex to meet future scientific challenges.
00:03:23 A greater number of pharmaceutical compounds are now in clinical studies worldwide
00:03:29 than at any other time in the history of Syntex.
00:03:33 This research effort is expected not only to augment existing product lines,
00:03:38 but to develop important drugs in cardiology, gastrointestinal diseases, viral disorders, and cancer,
00:03:46 which are new product areas for Syntex.
00:03:49 Syntex has a very bright future.
00:03:51 We have an enormous research effort, which is clearly paying off.
00:03:56 We have products in the research pipeline, which are major contributions to medicine.
00:04:06 I think we feel good about the job we're doing.
00:04:08 We really are making contributions to medicine, helping mankind.
00:04:12 And that is very important, and it's Syntex.
00:04:22 Syntex
00:04:27 Highly trained people and sophisticated equipment are essential to manage the painstaking process
00:04:33 of manufacturing prescription pharmaceutical products.
00:04:36 Each complex step is carefully monitored to ensure that the finished product
00:04:41 meets rigorous quality and safety standards.
00:04:44 These same high standards extend to protecting the health and safety
00:04:48 of all Syntex employees in the workplace.
00:04:54 Syntex plants in the United States, Mexico, Ireland, and the Bahamas
00:04:59 produce chemical ingredients for the company's pharmaceutical products.
00:05:19 Emerging from pharmaceutical production lines are many important Syntex products.
00:05:25 Topical medicines for serious skin problems, oral contraceptives,
00:05:31 products for allergic conditions, and naproxen,
00:05:35 one of the most important and widely used anti-arthritic medications in the world.
00:05:42 An exciting area of health care is the development of rapid,
00:05:48 accurate, and easy-to-operate diagnostic tests.
00:05:52 The Syntex Diagnostics Division, including CEVA and Syntex Medical Diagnostics,
00:05:57 develops tests that permit physicians to identify sexually transmitted diseases
00:06:02 and other infectious diseases, and to monitor a patient's blood levels
00:06:06 People have come to equate CEVA with service,
00:06:10 service with good quality products, nice people.
00:06:15 They constantly are talking about our field force as being excellent
00:06:19 and actually listening to their wants and desires.
00:06:22 And when I get on the phone, it's like, okay, here's a challenge.
00:06:26 Can I get it done?
00:06:28 Might I be able to get it done?
00:06:31 And when I get on the phone, it's like, okay, here's a challenge.
00:06:34 Can I get it done?
00:06:36 My biggest joy is when I've actually solved a problem.

00:07:00 Products developed by Syntex Agribusiness protect the health of animals
00:07:04 and improve food production around the world.
00:07:08 For more than a quarter of a century, Syntex products have been used by cattle feeders
00:07:13 to promote more efficient weight gain.
00:07:16 Syntex products also control harmful parasites
00:07:20 and reduce pain and inflammation in a variety of animals.
00:07:27 I think there is a strong commitment to providing and improving the quality of health care.
00:07:32 I think in recent times, that has expanded to include providing health care
00:07:37 in a cost-effective manner rather than just a high-quality product.
00:07:41 And there's an incredible sensitivity to that within the organization.
00:07:46 Being in research, I have the advantage of seeing things very early
00:07:49 and have an idea of what's coming on.
00:07:51 I know that a lot of things we lose, but we have a lot of new compounds
00:07:55 and a lot of new different dosage forms that are very encouraging for long-term growth.
00:07:59 And I think with long-term growth, there are opportunities for everybody at all levels.

00:08:10 Syntex has such a good name, and it's all based on our good products,
