Lieber Herr Doctor Mangold:
Max A.Bredig

Dear Doctor Mangold:
I heard from Professor Terres that you will kindly give the memorial speech for my father on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Karlsruhe Chemical Society. My sister and I are incredibly grateful to you for doing this favor you on behalf of our father's memory.
My father compiled the enclosed notes before his emigration. If these do not reach you too late, perhaps you will find them useful for your lecture.
As you may see from the enclosed newspaper clipping, my father spent the last four years of his life in New York, after he managed to travel to the United States from Holland a few weeks before the invasion. Together with my sister and her husband, who were the last refugees to come to the United States from the Gurs concentration camp in southern France, he lived with me in a Manhattan apartment in complete seclusion. He died in a hospital on April 24, 1944 at the age of 75 from complications from an appendix operation.
Many thanks again and best regards.
Sincerely,
Max A. Bredig
