Harold C. Urey (1893-1981) asks Kasimir Fajans (1887-1975) to contribute money to help Karl Friedrich Bonhoeffer (1899-1957) recover from angina pectoris (chest pain). Urey thinks that Bonhoeffer is suffering from this medical condition due to the violence he endured by the Nazis.

Bonhoeffer, along with fellow chemist Paul Harteck (1902 – 1985), discovered the spin isomers of hydrogen, orthohydrogen, and parahydrogen. The two were the first to synthesize pure parahydrogen in 1929.
