This instrument was created in 1968 by Beckman Instruments' Advanced Technology Operations (ATO) specifically for measuring the effect of space flight on calcium and creatinine levels in astronauts' urine. Colorimeters measure the absorbance of specific wavelengths of light, and are frequently used to measure concentrations of solute in a solution.
