Lieber Herr Professor Bredig!
K. Fajans

Hochgeehrter Herr Professor (Fajans)!
------- gez. A. Schleede

Dear Professor Bredig,
To come back to my last letter, I can tell you today about one of the options I had in mind for Max-Albert. In Dresden, the university lecturer, Mr. A. Schleede, who used to work with Tiede in Berlin and now works at the Chemical Institute in Greifswald, asked me to recommend one of my students as a Liebig Assistant. I had a gentleman in mind, but when I received your last letter, I immediately recommended your son. I am enclosing Mr. Schleede's reply and request that you let me know your thoughts on Max-Albert possibly contacting Mr. Schleede. A non-binding, preliminary contact could be useful in determining if the matter can be considered at all. In the meantime, I will eventually clarify the other possibilities that I am thinking about. I would like to mention that Mr. Schleede has done some valuable work on the crystal structure of phosphors (Debye-Scherrer Method) and on the light sensitivity of zinc sulfide*. He also makes a very good impression.
Best regards,
K. Fajans

Dear Professor Fajans,
I would like to express my heartfelt thanks for your esteemed letter from May 29th. Since Dr. Bredig has quite extensive training and you recommend him, I would be glad to enter into negotiations with him. In the meantime, however, a predicament has arisen. Yesterday, Professor Helferich received word that Liebig Assistantships, which have always been approved without difficulty, are not currently available. Nonetheless, pre-applications will be accepted beginning January 1st. Under these circumstances, it is doubtful if Dr. Bredig would be interested at all in applying. Otherwise, I could perhaps reconsider Mr. Schwarz, whose exam, per Dr. Lange, will take place at the beginning of the winter semester.
A. Schleede
