This is one of many letters written to Arnold Beckman in response to his comments on the topic of education. The writer expresses lukewarm agreement with Beckman’s U.S. News & World Report article, which he nonetheless characterizes as “grossly naive.” He expresses concern about low teaching salaries, the pressure to keep taxes low, and the persistent focus on technical education. The letter is signed “One who needs his job for another year or so while he studies for a Ph.D. in economics, and who has heard of the vicious economic pressure exerted by some American Legion posts and C. of C.s."
