General view of the 13-ton extrusion press at the Dow Chemical Company Magnesium Fabrication plant facilities located in Madison, Illinois. Produced in Duisburg, Germany, the press measured 250 feet long and could produce extrusions up to 80 feet long. Dedicated in 1954, the magnesium fabrication plant in Madison was the world's first facility designed for the mass production of magnesium mill products and boasted the first large-scale magnesium sheet mill, as well as the largest extrusion facilities for the metal.
