Liebe Ilse,
herzlichen Dank für Ihre Zeilen und Ihren und Dr. Bredigs Scheck vom 10. Juni. Ich habe zwanzig Dollar zugelegt und das Ganze mit Erlaubnis der Federal Reserve Bank nach Spanien gekabelt. Auf der Federal Reserve Bank wurde mir gesagt, dass die Ueberweisung gesetzlich sei, dass sie aber in New York durch den Censor zurückgehalten werden kann.
Ich hoffe, dass dieser Betrag Hochwald wieder ein wenig auf die Beine hilft, und bin Ihnen und Dr. Bredig ungemein dankbar, dass Sie auf meine Bitte eingegangen sind und dazu bereit sind, denselben Betrag alle zwei Monate zur Verfügung zu stellen.
Sobald ich weiss, dass das Geld nicht in New York aufgehalten worden, werde ich Werner Hochwald schreiben und aufs energischste versuchen ihn zu verpflichten mitzuhelfen.

Dear Ilse,
Thank you very much for your note and the check from you and and Dr. Bredig dated June 10th. I added twenty dollars and wired the entire amount to Spain with permission from the Federal Reserve Bank. At the Federal Reserve Bank, I was told that the transfer was legal, but that it could be delayed in New York by the censor.
I hope that this money will help Hochwald get somewhat back on his feet. I am extremely grateful that you and Dr. Bredig were amenable to my request and are willing to provide the same amount every two months.
As soon as I know that the money has not been held up in New York, I will write to Werner Hochwald and try my best to get him to help.
