Sehr geehrter Herr Kollege!
Mit Ihren freundlichen Worten haben Sie mir eine wirkliche Freude bereitet, für die ich Ihnen
herzlich danke. Mit Zeichen der Anerkennung oder Ehrungen irgendwelcher Art hat mich das Leben nicht verwöhnt. Aber meine Arbeit habe ich immer mit einer Art von Begeisterung getrieben und das läßt mich mit dankbarer Zufriedenheit auf mein Leben zurücksehen.
Von den Protonen in Metallen hoffe ich bald Ausführlicheres mitteilen zu können. Über die mir besonders

Many thanks for your kind words, which delighted me. I have not received many recognitions or honors of any kind in my life. Yet I have always approached my work with enthusiasm and that allows me to reflect on my life with grateful satisfaction.
I hope to be able to soon provide more detailed information about the protons in metals.
