Ich schrieb Ihnen vor zwei Wochen aus Canada und hoff, dass Sie meinen Brief erhalten haben, obwohl ich 308 statt 105 als Ihre Hausnummer angegeben habe.
Der beiliegende Brief wird Sie interessieren. Ich habe freundlich geantwortet, ich glaube Terres hat unter die Nazis gelitten. Ich habe geschrieben, dass ich nicht kommen kann, teils wegen der geographischen Entfernung teils weil ich nicht sicher bin ob die Entfernung der Gesinnungen bereits genuegend überwunden ist. Ich fügte hinzu, dass mich die Wahl eines Festredner etwas überrascht hat. Über König hörte ich recht schlimme Äusserungen, Waldschmidt-Leitz, der in Prag war, hat sich auch nicht rühmlich benommen.
Ich habe Terres Ihre und Reis’s Adresse angegeben +), ich überlasse es Ihnen beiden, ob Sie einen Glückwunsch senden wollen (ich habe es getan, ich bin Ehrenmitglied der Karlsruher Chem. Ges.) und ihm weitere Adressen mitteilen wollen. Bitte senden Sie den Brief von Terres und diesen meinen an Sie gerichteten umgehen an Reis.

Dear Max Albert,
I wrote to you from Canada two weeks ago and I hope you received my letter, although I wrote 308 as your house number instead of 105.
The enclosed letter will interest you. I kindly replied. I think Terres suffered under the Nazis. I wrote that I can't come, partly because of geographical distance, and partly because I'm not sure if the difference in sentiments has sufficiently prevailed. I added that I was a little surprised by the choice of the keynote speaker. I heard very negative comments about König. Waldschmidt-Leitz, who was in Prague, didn't conduct himself appropriately either.
I gave Terres your and Reis’s address +). I will let you both decide if you would like to send a note of congratulations (I did because I am an honorary member of the Karlsruhe Chemical Society) and give him further addresses. Please send Reis the letter from Terres and this letter addressed to you.
