The work's author, Irene Koechig ( -1975), was an instructor in Biological Chemistry and Microbiology at the Washington University in St. Louis School of Nursing. Koechig received a bachelor’s degree from Washington University in 1911 and a master’s degree in Chemistry in 1912. Koechig taught until the mid-1950s.
