Lieber Vater,

Dear Father,
From Marianne’s letter dated July 15th (A1), I hear that you have a little cold and that the weather is chilly. I hope you have gotten better in the meantime. Can you send some of that cold weather my way? It is about 30° Celsius here. So far, however, I'm not doing any worse than I was in Europe. In fact, I am doing better here! My medical treatment here is better than in Berlin. However, I haven't really noticed anything so far! Of course, I only increase the minimal amounts very slowly. It’s very difficult to work when it is so hot. I’m also writing application letters from time to time. The state of the stock market still has minimal influence on the labor market.
I still have a few more experiments to conduct in the laboratory, but I'm not very interested in them anymore. Neither is my boss, apparently. He will hardly be able to help me find a position either, especially since he is only familiar with the steel industry. I will probably visit Badger tomorrow, but it will probably be a similar situation. Perhaps I should have signed up to hold a lecture in Milwaukee, but I feared difficulties with H.H.
On Sunday, I went swimming with a young German couple at a pretty, albeit crowded lake, which is located about 60 km from here. My Ford runs very well. It will be quite problematic if I would have to sell it because I am not earning enough. It's quite unpleasant here without a car. Perhaps a position will present itself soon.
In the meantime, the pajama set is complete and very nice, as well as the cakes. Mrs. Marx has been bedridden for many weeks and it’s quite miserable, especially since Lore doesn’t get along with her unpleasant boss. He is also not very popular here. Everyone is so concerned with personal appearance here. She daftly believes that she can find a job through personal introductions rather than a written application. In any case, you are usually asked to complete an interview before you are employed.
I have so much to write that I can’t manage to fit it all here. Warm regards to everyone.
Max
