The first photograph's annotations identify the men in the image including "Just," "Ernst," Max Bodenstein (1871-1942), Kikunae Ikeda (1864-1936), Georg Bredig (1868-1944), Jacobus Van't Hoff (1852-1911), Gilbert Newton Lewis (1875-1946), Ludwig Boltzmann (1844-1906), Wilhelm Ostwald (1853-1932), Wagner, Yukichi Osaka (1867-1950), Robert Thomas Luther (1868-1945), Otto Hahn (1879-1968), Alwin Mittasch (1869-1953), and Erich Anselm Marx (1874-1954).

The second photograph's annotations identify the women in the photograph by their last name. Those identified include Johanna Francina Mees (1853- 1935), Helene von Reyher (1854–1946), and Henriette von Aigentler (1853-1938), the wives of Van't Hoff, Ostwald, and Boltman, respectively.
