The Orange County Section of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics invited speakers to discuss plans for a manned orbital space station. The pictured men are identified as the speakers: Thomas B. Webber, manager of bioastronautics at Beckman Instruments; B. E. Welch, chief of the Environmental Systems branch at the U.S. Air Force School of Medicine; and Edward Olling, head of the Space Station Study Office at the Manned Spacecraft Center.

  • (note, 2012-002_201) "SPACE STATION -- This is one concept of a Large Manned Orbiting Laboratory currently under study by the NASA Manned Spacecraft Center in Houston, Tex. It would house up to 18 laboratories and living chambers, and would rotate slowly to simulate the effects of gravity. The crew would be rotated to and from orbit by the re-entry spacecraft attached atop the hub. The re-entry body also would be used to transport supplies to the spacecraft, and return scientific data to earth."
