Bleicherode 8. Okt. 39. Mein lieber Max! Vielen Dank von uns allen für Deinen lieben Brief vom 24. Sept, den wir gestern erhielten, u. für Deine getreuen Wünsche zu meinem u. Viktors Geburtstag. Ob sie sich erfüllen ist Schicksal. Dass es Dir anscheinend gut geht u. Du endlich zusagende Wirkung gefunden hast, freut uns sehr. Hoffentlich bleibt es so u. auch mit Deiner Arbeit. – Gieb die Liste meiner wissenschaftlichen Arbeiten den Bibliothek der wichtigsten Amerikanischen Universitäten. – Von uns dreien können wir nichts weiter melden, als dass wir gesund sind, und dass wir wie wohl die ganze Welt Sorgen haben und den Frieden erdenken. – Die 3 Buben sollen wieder in ihren Schulen sein, deren Adresse ich Dir schon früher mitteilte. – Meine Reise ist sehr fraglich geworden und ich sehr unschlüssig. Unsere Freunde in Ann Arbor haben wohl grosse Sorgen. – Bleibe gesund! Es grüsst Dich von uns allen Dreien innigst.

Dear Max,
Thank you for your kind letter from September 24th, which we received yesterday, and for wishing me and Viktor a happy birthday. If these good wishes come true, is up to destiny. We’re glad that you’re doing well and have found fulfilling work. Please give the list of my scientific publications to the libraries of the most important American universities. We don’t have anything new to report other than we are healthy. Like the rest of the world, we are worried and long for peace. The three boys should be back at school. I sent you their address earlier. My travel plans are uncertain, and I am very indecisive. Our friends in Ann Arbor must be very concerned. Stay healthy! Warm regards from all of us.
