98 items

This collection represents over 35 years of correspondence from 1942-1978, between the Nobel Prize-winning chemist Robert S. Mulliken and quantum chemist Harrison Shull. The two men first met in 1948 when Shull worked with Mulliken as a post-doc at the University of Chicago. They enjoyed a warm friendship and collaborated on several projects which are documented in this collection. The collection contains 122 letters, mostly written by Mulliken, but also from several other notable scientists including Linus Pauling, Detlev Bronk, and Charles Coulson, as well as Vice President Henry A. Wallace. The entire collection is open for research and the majority of it has been digitized and is available online.
