Letter from H. G. Ollendorff, Inc. to Georg Bredig, January 8, 1941
- 1941-Jan-08
Letter to Georg Bredig (1868-1944) from Curt H.J. Mayer of H.G. Ollendorff Inc. Mayer informs Bredig that they received a letter from a transport company requesting they pay for the transport and storage of boxes in his storage.
When Bredig fled from Germany he took care to pack his correspondence, books, photographs, and scientific notes and ship it to the Van't Hoff Library in the Netherlands. Bredig knew that these records were important pieces of scientific history and feared if he left them in Germany they would be destroyed by the Nazi party. Georg Bredig never lived to be reunited with his possessions. They were not able to be sent to the the Bredig family until after World War II in 1946. In 2019 the collection was acquired by the Science History Institute.
