Letter from H. G. Ollendorff, Inc. to Georg Bredig, April 8, 1940
- 1940-Apr-08
Letter to Georg Bredig (1868-1944) from H.G. Ollendorff Inc. The letter informs Bredig that his things have arrived in Holland and should arrive at his residence soon.
When Bredig fled from Germany he took care to pack his correspondence, books, photographs, and scientific notes and ship it to the Van't Hoff Library in the Netherlands. Bredig knew that these records were important pieces of scientific history and feared if he left them in Germany they would be destroyed by the Nazi party. Georg Bredig never lived to be reunited with his possessions. They were not able to be sent to the the Bredig family until after World War II in 1946. In 2019 the collection was acquired by the Science History Institute.

Dear Professor,
We have just received news from Holland that your boxes have meanwhile arrived in Holland.
We assume that nothing is preventing the delivery of your things and that they will hopefully arrive here very soon. There were still some formalities to address before loading, but hopefully they have been taken care of concurrently in Holland.
As soon as we have more news, we will be in touch.
Respectfully,
