Wallace H. Coulter (1913-1998) enumerated the Coulter Principle for counting and sizing particles suspended in a fluid. He patented the Coulter Counter for blood cell analysis in 1953 and co-founded Coulter Corporation with his brother, Joseph. The corporation was acquired by Beckman Instruments in 1997.
