Third edition of a work produced by the California Cap Company, the first U.S. manufacturing company of blasting caps and explosives for use in mining. The California Cap Company was founded in 1877 by William Letts Oliver (1844-1918) and Freeborn Fletter (-1899). It was the major supplier of blasting caps for the Western United States for many years until the company’s closure in 1940. The volume includes a paper written and read for the Fourteenth Annual Convention of the California Miners’ Association by Roland L. Oliver, The Value of Detonating Caps in Blasting. Contains sections concerning the strength of explosives, properties of detonating compounds; combustion, explosion, and detonation, proper care of fuses, and suggestions to ensure the best results in blasting.
