Black and white portrait of Johann Wilhelm Hittorf (1824-1914). Taken by F. Hundt in Münster, Germany. Hittorf was a German physicist and chemist who first computed the electricity-carrying capacity of charged atoms and molecules (ions), an important factor in understanding electrochemical reactions.
