1955 Yugoslavian postage stamp depicting Nicotiana tabacum, or tabaco plant. Tobacco has a long history of traditional medicinal uses. Most commonly, topical uses such as skin infections, snake bites, toothaches, and wounds. Additionally, tobacco was used in sacred medicinal traditions to promote physical and spiritual cleansing.
