Notebook consists of handwritten notes taken by Francis E. Scott at the U.S. Army Gas School at Camp Kendrick, New Jersey, on the use of gas in warfare. The notes include teaching aids and a circular letter from Brigadier General Amos A. Fries, Chief of the Chemical Warfare Service, in which he discusses use of gas in trench warfare in France. Scott held the rank of 1st Lieutenant in the Army's Chemical Warfare Service during World War I.
